Mazengo-Handali and Mkoka Villages, Tanzania

Updated: Nov 7

Mazengo-Handali

I am delighted to share this lovely update from your wonderful projects in Mkoka Village and Mazengo-Handali Village in Tanzania.

Our local team of engineers and field officers had the pleasure of visiting these villages and are delighted to confirm that all the water systems you so generously gifted the communities are successfully operating, providing clean water to thousands of inhabitants.

With access to safe and clean water, the communities are thriving and the women and children, predominantly responsible for collecting water, are safer, healthier and have regained precious time which they can now use for studying and/or caring for their families.

Throughout their visit, our field officers noted significant and transformative impacts across these communities and I wanted to highlight these two special community members who wished to share how your support has impacted their lives.

Yohana Matonya, a 46 year old father of 7 children from Mazengo-Handali Village, shares: "Since the project was established, I have had the opportunity to learn modern methods of vegetable cultivation through the irrigation system. I’m using this knowledge to start a garden at my home, and I've also taken on the role of a teacher, sharing the best practices for growing vegetables and fruits with my fellow villagers to help them earn an income. All of these achievements are thanks to the presence of the water project in our village. We are grateful to our donors, and we promise to maintain and develop this project for future generations."

Anna John, a 46 year old mother of 5 children from Mkoka Village, shares:

"In the past, it was hard to access fresh vegetables, as we had to buy them from distant villages twice a week. Many people in the village couldn’t grow their own produce due to a lack of water. This situation changed dramatically when this water project was brought to our village and I was fortunate to have a tap installed near my farm. This was a fantastic opportunity for me to start home gardening, where I now grow tomatoes and Chinese vegetables. This not only provides my family with nutritious food but also allows me to sell the surplus for income, which I use to support my family's welfare. For instance, the earnings from my kitchen garden enabled me to pay for health insurance for my child. Thank you so much for your kindness. G-d bless you!"

These testimonies offer a glimpse into the profound impact your support and generosity have had on these communities, and on their behalf, I wish to thank you for your kindness.

I have included below some photos from this project which I hope will bring you immense pride and joy and we look forward to sharing further updates with you again soon!

Warm regards and thank you once again for your support and partnership,

Matilda and the Tanzania Team
