We are excited that your child has chosen to participate in CCC's Water 4 Mercy Service Chapter this year. Water 4 Mercy (W4M), a non-profit organization founded by CCC alumna Samantha Rubin '15 and her mother Nermine, works to bring sustainable clean water systems to remote villages in sub-Saharan, Africa with the goal of permanently ending thirst, hunger and poverty.
Established in 2021, the purpose of our W4M Service Chapter is to raise awareness about the plight of millions in Africa who do not have access to a safe, clean water source and to help raise funds to bring solar-powered, sustainable water systems to these villagers. See below for an update from the village we helped last year - Mabalangu Village (Dodoma region in Tanzania). We accomplish this through on-campus and community awareness campaigns and through our fundraising activities - Fall Movie & Game Night, Walk 4 Water (walk-a-thon), and dress down days. To date, the CCC W4M Service Chapter has raised more than $35,000 bringing clean water to nearly 1,700 villagers.
Students who are involved in CCC's W4M Service Chapter experience countless benefits that will feed their hearts and souls and strengthen their college application.

TANZANIA TRIP
Summer 2024
For ten days in late June and early July six CCC students, two chaperones, one parent, and a TV news reporter traveled throughout central and north-central Tanzania with Water 4 Mercy founder and CEO, Nermine Rubin.
Check out the ABC Action News story here.
This once-in-a-lifetime journey included visits to several remote villages (with and without access to clean water), most notably to CCC's adopted village, Mabalangu. While in Mabalangu, our group joined villagers in turning on the taps of the solar-powered, sustainable clean water system installed last spring. Students also visited the village's original water source and experienced what it was like to get water before Water 4 Mercy installed the water system. Our group also visited the Sisters of Notre Dame primary and secondary school, an orphanage, and two Don Bosco technical schools including the AiTEC Farm established by W4M for development of drip agricultural systems. Students also had opportunities to interact with and learn from W4M's contractors, innovation: Africa (sustainable clean water and solar energy technology), and CultivAid (agricultural systems & technology).
Safari tours were also an incredible part of the experience with trips to Tarangire National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, and Lake Manyara National Park. There were countless other unique experiences such as attending a beautiful Catholic Mass in Swahili, shopping in a local grocery store, and negotiating great deals at the Masai Market.
We are tentatively planning to return to Tanzania in summer 2026 and hope your child is interested in joining us. More info will be shared as it become available.

Would you drink this water?
For many, the only source of water is a deep hole or pond open to the elements that is also shared with wildlife including hyenas who will attack over access to the water. Families must walk hours to retrieve this unsanitary water meaning children do not have time to go to school and many suffer from water-borne illnesses. Clean water means improved health and hygiene, time to attend school, an ability to grow crops to eat and sell, and resources to create businesses such as brick making bringing economic stability and hope for the future!
